Iced Matcha Latte

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder
  • 2 ounces hot water (not boiling, about 175°F or 80°C)
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy alternative)
  • 1-2 tablespoons sweetener (like honey, agave syrup, or sugar) to taste
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: Whipped cream for topping

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Matcha: In a small bowl, sift the matcha powder to remove any clumps. Add the hot water to the bowl and whisk vigorously using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a milk frother until the matcha is fully dissolved and frothy.
  2. Sweeten the Matcha: Stir in your preferred sweetener to the dissolved matcha until well mixed. Adjust the sweetness according to your taste.
  3. Assemble the Drink: Fill a glass with ice cubes. Pour the milk over the ice, leaving some space at the top for the matcha.
  4. Combine: Slowly pour the whisked matcha over the milk. You can either layer it for a beautiful visual effect or stir gently to combine the flavors.
